The Active Type.

Take a few minutes to visit the attached link which discusses the design and development of an animated typeface called Mobilo. Afterwards, take a few minutes to consider other practical examples where type has been “animated” to communicate an idea or story. Use at least 200 words and describe a possible application for Mobilo. In other words, how could this animated typeface be used? What type of client might utilize this typeface?

Mobilo Typeface

  1. Andrea says:

The most common place to find animated type is in video ads and commercials. This is a practical setting for an animated typeface because video ads and commercials are typically dynamic with footage or animations that portray moving subjects and would therefore allow viewers to see and experience the full effects of the animations worked into the typeface. Animated typefaces are also commonly utilized for commercial use because many video ads and commercials are more free and adventurous than their stationary counterparts. Often times, there will not be as many rules, guidelines, and expectations for video advertisements as there are for ordinary motionless writings where typefaces are used. For example, it would be a poor choice to use an animated typeface on an online resume to apply for a job in banking or something boring like that because animated typefaces are not very sophisticated or professional and they can be difficult to read which would be a problem if you want a serious and professional job. However, in commercials and video ads, there are not always so many boundaries and depending on what is being advertised, an animated typeface could be very appropriate because it can be fun, creepy, silly, exciting, or a number of other emotions. Animated typefaces are typically more entertaining to watch than ordinary stationary typefaces which is an ideal asset for advertisers who want to grab and hold the attention of viewers and potential customers or clients. Animated typefaces are also very good at grabbing people’s attention because they are not nearly as common as ordinary typefaces and tend to stand out from their surroundings. The typeface Mobilo could be used for a variety of things but my first thought when I saw it was of TV channels. Many TV channels these days use somewhat simple yet interesting and trendy animated typefaces. I do not watch enough TV to really compare Mobilo to a typeface used by any specific TV channel but Mobilo would probably be most practical for a TV channel aimed towards an audience primarily made up of young adults. Many of the animations are not playful or fun enough for young kids to enjoy, preteens and younger teenagers hate everything so it is a waste of time trying to impress them, some average age adults might appreciate this typeface but most of the ones I know prefer typefaces that are a bit simpler, and the elderly tend to prefer typefaces that are simple and very easy to read because typefaces that move or are too wild tend to be a problem for people with failing vision. Additionally, the colors and artistic styles of the letters and animations are rather trendy right now among young adult and older teen population.

  2. Samuel O. says:

Type is a powerful tool used in advertising everywhere to show a story or get an idea across quickly to the ones who happen to look. An important event or holiday. The doodle’s change the logo by manipulating the letters in “Google” and sometimes are an important part of an animation or a game designed within the browser. example of where type is animated in a way to communicate is “Google”. Specifically speaking, Google’s well-known “Google Doodles” that replace the Google logo to celebrate an important event.

Mobilo is an amazing typeface that was created by tons of talented animators. Mobilo has a fun and bouncy design to it that could be used in many ways including videos, websites, advertising, and more. Mobilo or an animated typeface similar to it could be used in videos to give a presentation or a pitch a positive vibe and keep whatever is going on around it interesting. Advertisements can use animated typefaces to allow the media to be eye catching and captivating to watch. Mobilo is certainly the start of a great line of animated text that can be used by people or companies from all over the internet to enjoy or put into good use.

  3. Allie Myers says:

Mobilo is an eye catching typeface that can be utilized in many different applications in order to communicate an artist’s intended idea. When I first saw this typeface in action, I wanted to watch it over and over again to really see the animation. Each character and symbol has its own personality and interest to it. This is an important quality because you want the audience to pay attention to the design and continue looking at it. Because this is something that I have yet to see, personally, I would definitely share this with other friends and family and that is important for the artist or organization behind the design as their intent is to share and to communicate their idea with others. I can see this type being beneficial in digital ads, the kind that you would see on social media to be specific. It can be easily shared, seen by many different people, and keep the viewer’s attention as it repeats its animation over and over. This type would be great for a client whose goal is to communicate their product as fun and original. The letters have so much personality and its hard not to watch it over again to catch every detail. I also believe that this would appeal best to kids and young adults, although I don’t see why an adult wouldn’t enjoy it!

  4. Alex Shuherk says:

I loved the look of the Mobilo font, the Mobilo font used lots of diversity especially in the lowercase letter ”i”, other company’s use their own font, Pixar uses animated font for the lowercase ”i” in Pixar and loads of other movies used logos that are animated, movies more than anything else used animated fonts. Places where any animated typefaces could be used are places that are more modern say if they use a computer screen at a kids playhouse they could try using an appropriate animated typeface, any logo could use it as long as its off a computer screen for a company that has the right theme, for example Origin, Steam, Apple, Dell, etc. as long as we keep it with the theme and color of the company logo. A client who could use this type of font is a client looking to do something modern, fun, technological or playful, for example a band could use this type of font depending on their theme of music. I couldn’t see the font being used on buildings unless they use screens to animate them, buildings that are modern such as bar 145, Starbucks, Game stop, anywhere made in the 21st century or if its updated to a modern theme.

Some other practical examples that I have seen that uses animated type to further communicate ideas or a story would include youtube animated informational videos, ads, and animated music lyric videos. For all of these examples they help keep the audience intrigued into the video. For example, in animated informational youtube videos, they sometimes use animated type to catch the attention of the audience on maybe not a very interesting topic within a video. Some ads use animated text to get a sense of momentum and energy filled feelings to its audience to help promote the thing they are selling. And then for lyric videos, majority of professionally done music videos use a lot of animation to communicate a story they want to farther impact what the lyrics of the song are saying. Given these examples, the new animated typeface, Mobilo, could be used to further help these content creators to help create these videos. An example of this would be, for an animated informational video, they are already animated so much of their video that they want to post online for people to enjoy, that having a typeface that is already animated would be fairly helpful to those content creators if they choose they wanted to use it within their videos. Another example where this typeface could be helpful would be for presentations, sense it would a good way to keep the audience focused on what you are saying when the topic could actually not be that very interesting. I have seen animated videos and animated text used within presentations before, such as Ted Talks. These are some examples on how the text could be used by some clients.

To me, this typeface is a very friendly, fun, and playful typeface. It gives off a happy vibe by the way it bounces and flows. The overall shape and stroke thickness of the typeface also looks playful. In my opinion, this animated typeface could work well with a kid’s TV show or movie. Since it’s animated, it obviously cannot show its animation on paper. Therefore, if it was taken to someone or a client who works with child TV shows or moves, it could be used at its best. This typeface reminds me of the typeface use on the TV channel PBS Kids and a lot of the children’s shows that are displayed on that channel. This typeface also could work well with a child video game or TV commercial as well. In other words, the friendly vibe it gives off indicates that this animated typeface would best be used for a friendly TV show, movie, TV commercial, or video game. The typeface alone, aside from its animation, shouldn’t be used for serious matters because it looks as its an innocent typeface with the way the stroke is and the alignment of the shapes and details as a whole. In conclusion, this typeface will be used best if it’s used in anything friendly or kids related, due to the friendly look and vibe that it gives off.

Another example of animated type is the Pixar logo when it shows up in movies. When the lamp bounces on the I and becomes the I to make the logo. The Mobilo typeface can be used for powerpoint presentations. It could be applied in something that is targeted towards younger children. I say this because the typeface is really active and playful, which would peek a child’s interest. This typeface can also be used for a tv channel that shows cartoons. The Mobilo type would be used by toy companies for commercials. It would also be used by video game companies for their commercials. The type could be used by tv shows for intros/openings.
YouTubers and or content creators could use this type for their content. This type is best suited for advertising things towards toddlers and young children. It can be used by electronics companies like Samsung, Apple, Google, and or LG for when they might announce a new device or a new update. Playstation and Xbox use their own version of animated type, and it’s a more mature font that they use and it is used to catch the eyes of young adults. The Mobilo typeface itself would best fit things for children, even though it can honestly be used universally.

  8. Hanna says:

A possible application for Mobile Animated is for perhaps a website (instead of something printed), where the typeface would be able to remain in motion for a period of time. Websites that could possibly benefit from this typeface would likely deal with children, or a less serious topic. When using the word “topic”, I mean that in terms of what the website is trying to do–whether that be providing assistance for something, or trying to sell something to the viewer. For this specific animated typeface, I feel as though it would be more beneficial for a more childish or playful website, such as a video broadcasting website such as Twitch or Youtube, I’m sure even crunchyroll (an anime video website) would benefit. The type of client that would most likely utilize this typeface is definitely someone younger (perhaps the teenager to young adult range), due to the playful and random nature of the animation. When the typeface is not moving, the bold typeface alone could attract a slightly older audience. Due to the fact, though, that the typeface is quite playful, it could be used for multitude of different projects and websites, which helps make the typeface as successful as it is.

I see the most animated type faces in tv commercials or commercials before a video on youtube. I think the most animated types are to get your attention towards what they are trying to sell you. Wether they are trying to sell you something playful towards kids or big and flashy for something towards teens and sometimes big and bold for adults they are using these skills to connect the type face and product so you are more appealed to the product. Even on the little adds you can skip they try to fit as much animated type and flashy colors to try and get your attention before you skip and peak your interest to even continue watching the ad for who ever they direct it to. If someone is trying to get you to buy their network provider then they can use a more digital animation into a more rounded not so professional type face or if someone is trying to sell you a business suit then they could make it pop up but still have their sharp formal type face that gets your attention but still gets adults to think “hey this is a really nice suit” and don’t even realize they are getting persuaded by the text and formal presense provided.

The Mobilo animation looks really awesome and it made me more interested in it. I like how they add like picture movement, then it changes to a letter under 1 sec. Also, the font looks cool. the creator created his own typeface for the animation which is called Moblio Typefaces and makes the font bold too. I think the Animation will be good for children and teens to be more attractive to the movement of the animations. list of all best possibility that will work out very well with the other company or small business people to publish those animated typefaces. LIke Education tutorial video which will attract a lot of children to watch more tutorial video. Young people theme related to a commercial to convince them to buy their stuff or attract them to try there a product or something like that. cartoon tv show will great for them to show animation movement to pull more viewers to watch their channels like Nickelodeon or cartoon channels. youtube will be great to make an intro to convince people to subscribe their channel to be more popular. I hoping more people to start creating a lot animation typeface so we can be able to use it on the video or something else instead of sitting there for days and created serval animate typefaces to fit modern technology.

The typeface of the Mobilo is a very unique typeface. There are many other typefaces that use “animated” features. When a company and/or brand uses an “animated” feature, it is to give the word more meaning. It makes it more interesting to look at and it draws attention to people. Another typeface for a company and/or brand other than Mobilo, that uses an “animated” feature in the typeface is the well known company of Google. Google is the biggest search browser in the world. When there is an occasion going on, Google is on top of altering their typeface (which is made up of a typeface) to go along with the occasion. It really draws many people when they go on Google and when you click on the typeface, it will take you to information or a game. Many people will click on the logo if it interests them. The animated typefaces are unique and creative. It gives the typeface character and a special meaning. For the typeface for Mobilo, the animation for the typeface gives a playful kind of feeling. It does not give a serious feeling. Typefaces give a story and it also sets the mood for the movie, song, or magazine, etc. Most people don’t really think about the text that is on things but the typefaces are a huge thing when it comes to designing something.
